Call For Submissions
Dear hockey-obsessed writers, parents, players, and friends:
Nimbus Publishing is seeking submissions for a forthcoming collection of hockey-related stories. Hockey Mad: Memories of the Game from Atlantic Canada [working title] will be published in October 2009.
We are seeking heart-warming non-fiction pieces about the game of hockey, either in contemporary times or in the past. We’re particularly interested in pieces that inspire and entertain readers about hockey’s influence on us as Atlantic Canadians and its ability to teach us lessons that go far beyond the rink. We’d like to hear from coaches, spectators, referees, minor hockey parents, and of course, participants (young and old). Submissions must be non-fiction and must be related to the game of hockey—after that, it’s up to you!
Possible themes might include:
- extraordinary achievements and experiences of “ordinary” people
- overcoming adversity or tough situations
- examples of true sportsmanship and goodwill
- special relationships or friendships
- experiences that revealed a life lesson
- humourous or light-hearted moments
- the places we play: the backyard rinks, ponds, small-town arenas, etc.
While hockey is of course a part of life in other areas of Canada as well, we’re particularly interested in submissions that reflect the game here in Atlantic Canada. As a result, contributors from Atlantic Canada will be given first priority for inclusion.
Further details are below. Thank you for your time in considering this invitation, and all the best in all your hockey-related pursuits!
